A little bit girly, a little bit utilitarian, this shawlette embodies my absolute favorite combination, knit-wear-wise. The colors remind me of wheat and grass blowing in the winds in the Columbia River Gorge, and the ridges and ruffles really complement the distinct colors.
Yarn: approximately 380 (475, 550) yards fingering-weight yarn.
Size/finished measurements:
Small: 36” across back, 13” deep at center, after blocking.
Medium: 43” across back, 15” deep at center, after blocking.
Large: 50” across back, 17.5” deep at center, after blocking.
A note on sizing: One of the big concerns with this pattern when it first came out was the size - the original is quite a small shawlette. I’ve added two more sizes, and if you’d like, you can make it even larger by adding the following: three repeats of Ridge Section and one repeat of Stockinette Section. You can do this as many times as you’d like: add six repeats of Ridge Section and two repeats of Stockinette Section, etc. Please do know that if you add more repeats, you will need considerably more yarn.
I’ve estimated yardage, and did my best math to ensure it’s enough, but, as I haven’t knitted the two larger sizes, I can’t make guarantees. The yellow-green version is knitted according to the small size instructions. The blue one is closer to the medium-size instructions, but was an early prototype. I included photos of it here because it is really pretty and shows off nicely how fun the ruffle is in a larger shawlette.
