Cozy Shlanket MKAL
This pattern is designed to be a large oversized cozy blanket/shawl – aka a Shlanket! Designed so that it is cozy to work on and then super snuggly to wrap up in and keep warm on a cold winters day.
The pattern has a lovely flow so you can get into the rhythm of the knit but at the same time changes things up frequently enough so that it doesn’t ever feel boring. Pair it with some delicious yarn and it is a perfect cozy winter knit to treat yourself with at the start of this New Year!
Please come on over to the Knitting Expat Podcast Ravelry Group where we will be hosting the Chatter and FO threads for this Mystery Knit Along!

What you will need:
• Yarn: It would be best knit out of a Worsted/Aran weight yarn, which gives you approximately 200-220 yards (180-200 meters) per 100/120 grams for each colour. You will be using 3 colours so a total of 600-660 yards (540-600 meters) of yarn.
-
The yarn I used in my Aran weight sample is Peace Fleece, (200yds/180m per 115gm) in the following colours – Hemlock Poashja (Colour A), Moldova (Colour B), Rabbit Grey (Colour C)
-
Alternative yarn suggestions you could use would be any of the following:
-
Knit Picks Wool Of The Andes Worsted
-
Knit Picks Swish Worsted
-
Knit Picks Preciosa Tonal Worsted
-
Malabrigo Worsted
-
Malabrigo Rios
-
Cascade 220 Worsted
-
Berocco Vintage
-
Berocco Ultra Alpaca
-
Dream In Colour Classy
-
Any Worsted or Aran weight yarn with enough yardage to meet the shawl requirements.
• Needles – 5mm (US8) for Worsted yarn or 5.5mm (US9) for Aran yarn on Long Cable to accommodate the large number of stitches – I suggest a minimum of 40” cord length.
• Notions – 4 Stitch Markers for marking increases.
• Gauge – Gauge is really not too important with this shawl as long as you like the fabric you are getting. As a reference the sample shown had a gauge of 12sts / 4 inches after very gentle blocking. However, please note if you gauge is significantly different this can affect the finished size and yardage requirements for the shawl.
