This is and e-book of 3 cowl patterns, each with two different lengths (heights.)

Use any worsted weight yarn, preferably with at least 30% wool to help lock in the colorwork.

To get gauge I call for 5 stitches/inch in stockinette. This should get you the proper fair isle gauge.

Note that your gauge in fair isle will be approximately 1/2 inch tighter (per 4”) than in stockinette.

Each pattern can be done in a very long, cozy cowl (e.g. the blue and yellow one) which requires 200 yards of a main color, plus 50 yards of 1-2 complimentary colors, or a shorter cowl that requires 100 yards of a main color and 25 yards of a complimentary color.

The longer cowl can be worn a variety of ways.

This contains great patterns for stash busting!

Final circumference is 28 inches for all cowls. The smaller one is 8 inches tall and the taller one that covers one’s head, bunches up or folds over is 17 inches tall.

The houndstooth and chevron would be very atrractive for men, done in charcoal and brown, beige and navy etc.

There are charts for the fair isle patterns that are read starting at the bottom right and go to the top.

My daughter, who is 10 wears these cowls as they fit her well, although a bit larger. Directions are given for making them wider or narrower.

As I publish this it is still summer here in Rhode Island (which is why I’m wearing a tank in one photo - try wearing these with no aircon in July!) but I’m starting to get an inkling of knitting by the fire and thinking ahead to Christmas knitting.
