Pattern Notes

These place settings evoke the colours of a summer cottage garden! I have used the colours of roses, but why not change the colours to tone with your crockery?

The colourwork is stranded throughout. The napkin rings are knitted in the round without a steek. Two coasters are knitted at the same time, separate by 8 stitch steeks. (The steeks are included on the chart, 4 stitches on each side.) Once the Fair isle is complete, the steeks are cast off, then each of the two steeks is cut down the middle, and the garter stitch border is then worked on each coaster separately. Each place mat is knitted separately, again with a charted steek. Once the Fair isle is complete, the steek stitches are cast off and the border knitted on as for the coaster.

If you use a non-superwash wool, you do not need to neaten the cut edges of the steek, but if you wish to do so, this can be done once the border is knitted.

The borders of the place settings can be knitted in any colour. I have used a different colour for each set. If you wish to knit them all in the same colour you may need an extra ball of that colour.
