Cosy Chevrons Scarf and Wrap
The Cosy Chevron Scarf and Wrap is a simple scarf or wrap with a seamless geometric modular construction, it is knit entirely in garter stitch and finished with an i-cord edging.
It would be ideal to highlight a mystery mini set, such as a surprise countdown or advent mini set. It would also look lovely using two different colours, a single colour or as a stash busting scrappy version.
This is a classic rectangular shape scarf or wrap with an interesting construction, it makes a gorgeous and cosy knit. Both the Scarf and Wrap are constructed with columns, made up of separate garter stitch parallelogram sections created using the German short rows. Once all the columns are completed for the size worked, the scarf or wrap is then finished with an i-cord edging cast off/bind off.
A big thanks to my lovely tech editor and test knitters!
This pattern would be recommended for an intermediate or adventurous beginner knitter who is happy to look up techniques that they may be unfamiliar with. The pattern includes the use of German short rows, picking up stitches, i-cord edging and Kitchener stitch techniques, all of which have clear instructions with supporting photos, and links to suggested You Tube clips for each technique. Also included is a schematic diagram which details the process of construction.
Cosy Chevron Scarf and Wrap is written for two gauges, 4ply/fingering and 8ply/DK. Both gauges include a scarf and wrap size.
4ply/fingering gauge: 26 sts and 48 rows = 10cm/4” in garter stitch flat. Blocked and unstretched.
Scarf size: Each section uses 10g (40m/44yds), x 24 = total of 240g (960m/1056yds) for the main body, plus an extra 30g (120m/131yds) for the i-cord edging.
Wrap size: Each section uses 20g (80m/87yds), x 24 = total of 480g (1920m/2088yds) for the main body, plus an extra 40g (160m/175yds) for the i-cord edging.
8ply/DK gauge: 21 sts and 40 rows = 10cm/4” in garter stitch flat. Blocked and unstretched.
Scarf size: Each section uses 15g (34m/37yds), x 24 a total of 360g (816m/888yds) for the main body, plus an extra 40g (90m/98yds) for the i-cord edging.
Wrap size: Each section uses 25g (56m/64yds), x 24 a total of 600g (1344m/1536yds) for the main body, plus an extra 50g (112m/122yds) for the i-cord edging.
Finished dimensions for both gauges:
Scarf: 23cm/9” wide x 168cm/66” long
Wrap: 53.5cm/21” wide x 160cm/63” long.
Please note: sizing and yardage recommendations are approximate and depend on yarn thickness and tension of knitting. I have included a buffer in the yardage recommendations, but I do recommend weighing your first and second colours before and after completing section 1 and 2, to see how much yarn you will use for the size you have chosen. Once completed you can block lightly or more aggressively for a larger finished object.
