Worked in Schoppel Gradient, this is a one-skein cowl. The pattern makes the most of yarn with slow gradations in color. The corkscrew construction lets different zones of color collide in interesting ways. It was so beguiling that three different stitch patterns and effects are incorporated in one pattern.

The knitting is easy. Fair warning that it can be addictive: you will want to see how the next few yards of yarn change your cowl, then keep on knitting to find out! The pattern uses an easy join-as-you-knit method, illustrated in step-by-step photographs and text.

For additional variation, the cowl can be embellished with a decorative button or with fringe. When wearing the cowl, the fringe will extend over an adjacent band of knitting, likely adding further interest as colors collide.
