Coquille
Sample is shown worn with 4” of positive ease.
Yarn: Julie Asselin Nurtured (100% Wool: 130 yards/57g), 8 (9, 10, 11, 11, 12, 13, 14) skeins.
Required yardage: 950 (1075, 1200, 1325, 1425, 1560, 1690, 1820) yards.
Needles and Notions: US 8 5mm, US 9 5.5mm for working both large and small circumferences in the round; at least 10 (11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18) removable stitch markers; four stitch holders or smooth scrap yarn for underarm stitches; yarn needle.
This pullover features a short row shell motif at the wrists and throughout the yoke. Short rows also lengthen the back hem for a flattering hip line. The A-line body and relaxed fit sleeves are joined in bottom up construction before rows of short row shells shape the yoke. The back neck is built up using additional rows of shells before the sweater finishes with a garter stitch neck band.
The shells do appear to pucker as they are knit, but this will block out.
If your purl tends to be bigger than your knit, switch to a smaller needle size when you begin the shell set-up round.
Knitters interested in making a contrast line of the garter ridges should note that yarn will have to be cut as the beginning of rounds shift after each round of shells. Two rounds will be required, as a garter ridge is a knit round followed by a purl round, and both should be worked in the same contrast color; on “purl rounds” where decreases occur, perform the decreases in the second round of the contrast color. You will be lengthening the yoke by that additional round for every ridge, so take this into consideration. I think it’s easy to forgive such a small thing for the effect, but you have to decide for yourself.
