When I was planning for the Unwind Retreat in Kansas City, I was doing some research on famous sisters in Kansas City
history to inspire my retreat pattern. I came across the Conley Sisters and knew these heroic women were the perfect
inspiration for a shawl. Lyda, Helena and Ida Conley protected the Wyandot National Burying Ground in the center of
the city from being desecrated and developed. From 1906 to 1913, the sisters physically occupied the cemetery in
makeshift ‘Fort Conley’ and Lyda took the legal case all the way to the Supreme Court, becoming the first Native
American Woman to argue a case before the Supreme Court . These 3 brave sisters are now buried together in that
very cemetery.

CC: 1 skein of Fig Lace by Plies & Hellhounds (70% Kid
Mohair, 30% Silk, 460 yds / 420 m – 50 g), in “Night”.
Or approx.
MC: 820 yds / 750 m of Fingering-weight yarn or any yarn
you obtain gauge with.
AND
CC: 400 yds / 366 m of Lace-weight yarn or any yarn you
obtain gauge with.
Needles: US 6 / 4.0mm 30” / 76 cm circular needles.
Notions: Removable stitch markers, snips, darning needle.

GAUGE
28 sts x 32 rows to 4” / 10 cm on US 7 / 4.5 mm needles in
Section one rib BLOCKED with MC only.

CONSTRUCTION
Side to side triangle shaped shawl with i-cord edging and
vertical and horizontal textures using simple knits and purls
only. Thread weight is used to add a contrasting diamond
shape to define texture contrast at center.
