Colors of Love
I was fortunate to have Dream in Color Yarns send me some yarn to design with. This included the colorful “Love is Love” gradient pack. Nine skeinettes at 75 yards each in a literal rainbow of colors. I designed a spectacular set on knitted goodness, which I appropriately named “The Colors of Love”. Designed to showcase the amazing colors of the rainbow set, the shawl is worked in stripes and garter stitch from the inside out before being sectioned off and wings are added to grow two separate ways, all while being surrounded by an I-Cord border for durability and clean edge.
All the proceeds go toward Seeds of Peace, a program that teaches leadership skills to international youths.
MATERIALS:
• One set of Dream in Color “Love is Love” gradient pack. (70% Superwash Merino Wool, 20% Cashmere, 10% Nylon. 75 yards per skein. 675 yards total.)
• Two skeins of Dream in Color Cosette – Black and White. (70% Superwash Merino Wool, 20% Cashmere, 10% Nylon. 270 yards.)
• US 7 circ needles and DPNs (various lengths were used.)
• Size G crochet hook (for circular cast on.)
• Four stich markers
• Scrap yarn, or a 24” interchangeable needle cable.
• Tapestry needle MEASUREMENTS: About 92” in wingspan and 21” from top to deepest point.
GAUGE NOT CRITICAL FOR THIS PROJECT. PATTERN
NOTES: Read the pattern before beginning. This requires knowledge of Emily Ocker’s circular cast on as well as the Kitchener stitch.

The I Cord border can become tight around the project, especially on Sections Two and Three. During these sections, adding a yarn over after knitting the first three stitches, then dropping them on the following row will relieve some tension around the edge. Arrange the “Love is Love” set yarns into their color order. I decided to start with the dark purple color. Mark each one in order as Gradient One (G1), Gradient Two (G2), etc., for a total of nine gradients.
The yardage specifications for this project are as follows:
Main Color (MC): Black and White: 351 yards.
G1: Galaxy: Purple (35 yards).
G2: Tranquil: Blue {40 yards).
G3: Brilliant: Dark Teal (55 yards).
G4: Leprechaun Ballet: Light Teal (70 yards).
G5: Tart: Green (53 yards).
G6: Bitter: Gold (43 yards).
G7: Kettle Dyed Amber Glass: Yellow (40 yards). G8: Candy Pants: Red/Orange (38 yards).
G9: Hot Pants: Pink (32 yards).
