Coin Lace and Cable Wrap
This elann pattern will be retired at the end of February 2021 - No pattern support will be available going forward.
The Coin lace and Cable is my mother’s favorite pattern. The cable is a 6 stitch cable, crossed every 8th row. The coin lace, twisted every 4th row, has a cable effect without actual cabling; each twist has an eyelet at the center. The coin lace looks like an old Chinese coin, which is how it gets its name. A garter stitch border of 4 stitches edges the wrap. (Shui Kuen Kozinski - pattern intro)
Experience Level: Intermediate
Materials:
1532 m (1670 yards) of DK weight (21-23 st/4”) yarn held double throughout
or
766 m (835 yards) of chunky weight 15-16 sts to 4”/ 10 cm) yarn held single throughout
This stole can also be knit using sport weight yarn, as pictured worn with a belt on long-haired model on the beach. This version measured 43 cm (17″) wide x 178 cm 178 cm (70″) long, after blocking and used approx. 1092 (1638) yards of sport weight yarn (24-26 stitches/4″) held double throughout.
As of Sept 30, 2017, pattern now includes directions for a Coin Lace and Cable Throw and Cushion, adapted by Lynn Graham and Karen Heimburger, as well as instructions for knitting the wrap using sport weight yarn.
