One pattern from a trio of patterns published in Digits and Threads.

Patterns available to studio members/subscribers of Digits and Threads, an online magazine.

One day, we discussed a submission for a French press cozy, and it sparked our imagination. We decided to commission an additional pair of cozies so that each of the three would be made in a different craft. What started as a fun and simple project in one craft became a trio of projects in three crafts that would serve as an invitation for beginners to try something new. Plus, these cozies provide a quick and useful way for experienced makers to use up scraps. Whatever craft is your favourite, we hope you’ll also make one in a technique you’re less comfortable with, as a low- stakes way to learn something new.

Three patterns available: crochet, knit, quilting

Knit Version:
Our house is chilly in the mornings, and I prefer my coffee hot. By adding a cozy to the glass French press pot, my coffee stays warmer during brewing. And the second cup stays hot too! This cozy pattern showcases three vibrant colours using a slip stitch knitting technique. The shape is a simple rectangle that wraps around the pot, with a small extension that goes through the handle. The cozy is secured with one button; the button loop is integrated into the I-cord bind off. This pattern is for the classic 4-cup French press (with a diameter of about 10 cm) but is easily adaptable for a different-sized pot. The edges are kept neat with an I-cord border, helping to disguise the colour changes. Don’t use a French press? I’ve given modifications for a teapot mat.

Sizing
Pattern offers two variants: a cozy to go around a French press coffee pot, and a square(ish) teapot mat. The coffee cozy is sized to fit a 4-cup pot, approximately 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter, and each pattern provides details on adjusting for a different size. The teapot mats are around 19 cm (7 inches) square, and can also be adjusted.
