A cowl with instructions for 7 different weights of yarn.

One pattern for just about any yarn you may want to use to knit a cowl, from fingering to super bulky. The texture of the Cocoon Stitch pattern lends itself to variegated yarn, long color repeats, gradients, tweeds, tonals or solids. This is a great pattern for handspun or stash busting. I give tips on how to make it longer or wider.

Experience with knitting in the round is necessary. The Cocoon Stitch pattern has 2 techniques you may not be familiar with, but they are fully explained: K5tog tbl and (P1, K1, P1) in next stitch.
Included in the pattern are photos, a complete list of abbreviations, and a stitch glossary.

Pattern notes: The cowl is started at the top and knit in the round. It is bound off with a stretchy bind off creating a slightly looser bottom edge.

This is a great project for leftover yarn, or that one skein of yarn you don’t know what to do with, or that precious handspun yarn you’ve been saving for a small project. Do you need a quick gift? Perfect. The pattern has instructions for 7 different weights of yarn. It is worked at a looser gauge than recommended, but I have listed the gauge recommended on the label so you can easily figure out what yarn to use for each set on instructions.
Correct gauge is not critical for this project, but if your gauge is looser than the gauge listed for the project, you may need more yarn.
