Coco is 7 years old and he is curious about everything that surrounds him. He is always asking adults why this and why that.

The adults do not always know the answers or they might not want to tell him, and he cannot understand why. Sometimes Coco does not know the meaning of some of the big words that the adults use, but he does know what he likes and when something makes him happy or sad. What else could he need?

When the adults don’t want to explain things, Coco talks to his doll Pipa. With her, everything is so much simpler and she always has an answer, an answer that Coco understands perfectly. She listens to him, understands him and they have fun together.

I am sure that you have also felt these feelings of loneliness and incomprehension. Everyone knows these feelings and we all try to have someone close to us that makes those feelings disappear. Just seeing those special people allows us to relax. We know that we are not alone and that someone will lend us a hand when we need it.
The people who suffer from any disease quite often live with these feelings. On top of that, if the disease is considered rare, the feelings of incomprehension and being forgotten can be even stronger among them. Not many people seem to know or care about their circumstances.

For that reason, work done by AMES and other such associations that provide support, understanding and company is so important. The same as the work done by a friend, just like the work done by Pipa.

Myasthenia is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease of unknown origin, characterized by the weakness and fatigability of the skeletal or voluntary muscles of the body as a consequence of a dysfunction in the neuromuscular junction (the structure responsible for the propagation electrical stimulus from the nerves to muscles). This dysfunction occurs in most cases due to the presence of antibodies.

Congenital Myasthenia is a disease caused by a biochemical defect or a structural alteration of the muscular union. It has different levels of affectation: mild, moderate and severe. An early diagnosis contributes to a better management of its evolution.

Coco tiene 7 años y tiene curiosidad por todo lo que le rodea. Siempre pregunta a los mayores el porqué de ésto y el porqué de lo otro.

Los mayores no siempre saben o quieren contestarle y no consigue entender el motivo. Coco a veces no conoce el significado de algunas palabras difíciles que usan los mayores, pero entiende muy bien cuándo algo le gusta o no y cuándo algo le hace feliz o le pone triste. ¿Qué más hace falta?

En los momentos en los que los mayores no quieren explicar las cosas, Coco habla con su muñeca Pipa. Con ella todo es mucho más sencillo y siempre tiene la respuesta acertada, la respuesta que Coco entiende a la perfección. Le escucha, le comprende y se divierten.

Estoy segura de que tú también conoces bien ese sentimiento de incomprensión y soledad. Todos lo conocemos bien e intentamos tener cerca a alguien que haga desaparecer esa sensación. Aquellas personas que nada más verlas nuestro corazón descansa. Sabemos que ya no estamos solos y que alguien nos dará la mano cuando lo necesitemos.

La gente que padece alguna enfermedad convive con este sentimiento muy frecuentemente. Si además es alguna de las enfermedades calificadas como raras, el sentimiento de incomprensión y olvido puede ser aún mayor. Poca gente parece conocer e interesarse por sus circunstancias.

Por eso, labores como la de AMES y todas las asociaciones que dan apoyo, soporte, comprensión y compañía son tan importantes. Igual que la labor de un amigo, igual que la labor de Pipa.

La miastenia es una enfermedad neuromuscular, de origen desconocido, crónica y autoinmune que se caracteriza por la debilidad y fatigabilidad de los músculos esqueléticos o voluntarios del cuerpo de forma exclusiva a consecuencia de una disfunción en la unión neuromuscular (estructura encargada de la propagación del estímulo eléctrico desde los nervios a los músculos). Dicha disfunción se produce en la mayoría de los casos por la presencia de anticuerpos.

La miastenia congénita, es una enfermedad producida por un defecto bioquímico o una alteración estructural de la unión muscular. Tiene diferentes grados de afectación muscular: leve, moderada y severa. Un diagnóstico temprano contribuye a un mejor manejo de su evolución.
