Cockleshell Hero
This delightfully simple neck/shoulder shawl will certainly get your talked about for all the right reasons. It is an extremely versatile fashion accessory and can be worn in a number of ways but not only that it is simple to make, the adapted Cockleshell Lace border is easier than it looks.
I used my Slinky Sock Yarn which is a combination Superwash Merino and Tencel (originates from wood pulp of all things!), has a silky look and is machine washable, however it would be possible to make this garment in any sockweight yarn.
The pattern is so named after the Cockleshell Stitchwork along the edge and in honour of the Cockleshell Heroes from WWII - the 70th anniversary of their famous mission was celebrated earlier this year.
Please note this pattern has not been test knit so there could be errors but it is offered free on this basis. Thank you.
Since posting my design, its come to light that there is another similar design on Rav’s Database which uses DK, garter stitch and beading which I was totally unaware of. Can I take this opportunity of pointing readers to that pattern if they wish to make a DK garment so that they are free to choose.
