Description
Diagonal lace bag
If you liked my garter stitch bag for life pattern then you’ll love this one, as it’s a simple update. This diagonal rib provides the perfect texture to be both light but durable. I added a asymmetrical fringe for a slight bohemian feel, but you could easily work in pom poms.
Knitting ability: Easy to Intermediate
Skills:
You will need to be able to work a basic lace stitch. There is some seaming involved but no special technique is really required although mattress stitch would provide a more professional finish.
You will need:
Pair of 6mm straight needles (US 10)
Tapestry needle for sewing up
Safety pins
Yarn approx. 450g of Aran weight yarn with an additional 50g for fringing (optional)
Materials:
I used multi ended organic cotton for this bag but you could use any Aran weight yarn. I recommend
Love knitting – Paintbox cotton in Aran weight.
You could of course use multi ends of your stash or recycled, repurposed yarn or even fabric strips to make this bag, have fun with it!
Tension:
You really can work this bag to almost any tension, my advice would be to keep it tight so it keeps your groceries secure! This is the tension I’ve worked my bag to:
In lace stitch pattern using 6mm (US 10) needles: 13sts x 15 rows over 10cm x 10cm (4 x 4in)
Dimensions:
When working to my tension you should get a generous bag of 56cm ( 22”) wide and 61cm high (24”)
