Coalport Mittens are classic unisex mittens for cold and wet days outdoors. Named after the fine porcelain of the Victorian Era, when blue and white patterns came into vogue and flourished, these mittens have traditional Fair Isle and Selbu colourwork motifs housed in modern colourwork blocking. I am particularly fond of the snowflake/rose motif that emulates the patterning in the bottom of the teacup and recalls the Greek Mataki or “Blue Eye,” a symbol meant to bring protection and good luck to the wearer.
Knit bottom up, Coalport Mittens have a side thumb-gusset and identical patterns on front and back. The thumb is picked up afterwards and charted separately. Available in sizes S and L, these little mittens will surely fly off your needles in record time.
