Clover Brimmed Hat
by Ina Irvine
Ina was inspired by ‘baker boy’ hats and a hat knitted in Whalsay in the 1930s.
The brim is worked flat. Worked in the round when fair isle begins. The material for stiffening the brim is inserted before the brim is folded back.
Waterproof stiffening is used in the brim, and a template for this is provided.
Errata:
Page 81: Rib is k2, p2 worked back and forth. Repeat Row 1 till 40 rows have been worked. Delete the instruction for Row 2.
Page 82: the symbol and instructions are for a centred double decrease which works fine. However, to match what Ina did, you need to slip 1, k2tog, pass the slipped stitch over.
