Tres elegant spiraling lace faux cables that fit like a second skin. This pair took only one 200 yd skein of Malabrigo Finito (color: Paloma).

Inspiration for Cloudland came to me when I was standing on the bluff at Cloudland Canyon State Park which lies only 30 minutes from downtown Chattanooga, TN on the west side of Lookout Mountain, GA. The upswelling spring thunderheads spiraling heavenward reminded me of spiraling cables. When I tried to actually knit spiraling cables, I found that they were too binding, not to mention a struggle to knit, so I worked out a stitch that looks like cables, but feels and knits like lace. It’s really fun and surprizingly quick to knit for a lace pattern of this detail.

Size: One size fits most with sizing tips for other sizes or other weights of yarn
Gauge: 28 sts/40 rnds over 4 inches in stockinette, 36 sts/ 40 rnds in pattern.
Needle: One set of five double pointed needles in US #2/2.75 mm or size to obtain gauge
Finished Measurements: 9 1/4 inches long, 7 inches around the wrist.

This pattern looks really interesting inside out as well. See the difference in the last photo where you can see right side out above and inside out below. If you are careful with your finishing you can wear them whichever way suits you that day :-).
