To keep your tiny baby warm, here comes a woolly suit. In Denmark, babies sleep outside even in winter, so an extra layer of wool can be much needed. You can also use this suit if you’re carrying your baby in a sling or wrap, and don’t have space inside your own coat or jacket.

The construction of this piece is a bit unusual, which is to accommodate the color shifts in the yarn used. The wider the piece worked, the narrower the stripes become – and I really like the slower color shifts that can be achieved by working a narrower piece instead! This means that most of the suit is worked flat, then seamed together afterwards using mattress stitch.

I’ve only written this pattern for a size 0-3 months so far, and please note that it has NOT been tech edited nor test knitted. That’s why I’m offering it for free for now. I would be very thankful to get a note from you if you find any mistakes, typos or issues!

Yarn: Sample uses a light blow yarn, but can be worked in any worsted/aran weight yarn with the approximate same yardage and gauge. An alternative to the yarn used could be Camarose Snefnug, which is a lovely alpaca/merino/cotton blend.
Yarn used: Lang Yarns Cloud (90% merino, 10% nylon/polyester), 260 meters / 284 yards per 100g, 2 skeins (in total I used about 160g / 405 meters / 445 yards for the sample). Colorway used: 1077.0005.

Needles: 6,5 mm / US 10.5 circulars, at least 40 cm / 24 inches, 5,5 mm / US 9 for ribbing.
Other: Waste yarn for provisional cast on, tapestry needle for seaming and weaving in ends. 4 buttons, approximately 2 cm / 0.75 inch in diameter.

Gauge: Sample uses gauge of 14,5 sts & 21 rows to 10 cm / 4 inches in stockinette stitch, washed and blocked. Note that the yarn used will shrink a little bit when washed; all measurements given in pattern are pre-blocking.

Size: To fit a baby of 0-3 months with plenty of positive ease. Actual garment measurements:
Chest width: 22 cm / 8.75 inches.
Body length from shoulder to crotch: 33 cm / 13 inches.
Sleeve length: 18 cm / 7 inches.
Leg length: 19 cm / 7.5 inches.
