Classic granny square
This component design appears on pages 18-19 of Let’s Knit! Magazine 38, January 2011. There is no further pattern in that issue for using the squares, but on page 19 there is a suggestion box for using the squares: decorating the front of a rectangular purse or bag; continuing the classic granny square to make one big square and lining it to make a cushion-front. There is also a suggestion box explaining how to join the squares, using a darning needle (i.e. tapestry needle or bodkin).
The pattern explains how to make a three-coloured square. The recommended yarn (3 x 12g of DK) makes five multicoloured squares. The alternative yarn recommended by the magazine is Bergere de France Sport.
There is no stitch diagram or chart.
