Important Note to Read:
The pattern includes two different yarn weight versions of the Classic Chicken. There is a worsted weight version and a dk weight version. The pattern instructions are exactly the same for both versions. The only differences are the yarn weight, the needles sizes used and the finished measurements.

Finished Measurements
Worsted Chicken:
6.5-inches tall from the bottom to the top of the crown.
5-inches in length from the front to the back.

DK Chicken:
5.5-inches tall from the bottom to the top of the crown.
4-inches in length from the front to the back.

Yarn
Worsted Chicken: Wisconsin Woolen Spun Worsted by Barrett Wool Co., 100% American Wool; 250 yards (228 meters) / 100 grams. 1 skeins required for the main color of the chicken, Birch (creamy white) was used in the worsted sample for body, head, wings and tail. Small amounts of Barrett Tweed (see directly below) used for the crown, wattle, feet and beak.

DK Chicken: Barrett Tweed by Barrett Wool Co., DK weight, 72% extra fine merino wool; 10% alpaca, 18% nylon (tweedy bits); 164 yards (150 meters) / 50 grams. 1 skein required for the main color of the chicken, Speckled Hen (black tweed) and Bantam (gold tweed) was used in the two DK samples for body, head, wings and tail. Small amounts of Rhode Island Red and the selected beak and feet colorway used for each of the samples listed below. The two samples used Bantam (gold tweed) for the beak and feet, and Speckled Hen (black tweed) for the beak and feet.

Needles
White Wisconsin Woolen Spun Worsted Chicken:
US size 6 / 4.0 mm for the body, head, wings and tail.
US size 4 / 3.5 mm for the crown, wattle, beak and feet.

Gold and Black Barrett Tweed Chickens: US size 3 / 3.25 mm set of double-pointed needles used for entire chicken, crown, wattle, beak, wings, feet and tail.

Use the size needles that will achieve the correct gauge.

Gauge
For the Wisconsin Woolen Spun Worsted Chicken: 5.5 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch on the larger size needles.

For the Barrett Tweed DK Chickens: 6.5 sts per inch in stockinette stitch.
