Cio-Cio-San is the Japanese name of Madame Butterfly.
This shawl has a shape and decoration reminding me of a butterfly and the stitch pattern combines my filigree technique with japanese wrapped stitches.
This design pays homage to the character of Madame Butterfly both in the stitch used (Japanese lace) and in the colors reminiscent of the flower petals adorning the house on the night of the beloved’s return.
This shawl is a symbol for delicacy, love, devotion and hope.
Construction
This shawl is a top-down triangle with a filigree pattern that mixes colorwork with Japanese wrapped stitches.
It is started with an i-cord tab, then continued as a normal triangular shawl, with i-cords on the sides that give a finished look with no effort.
