Here, at the edge of forest & field, breathes a different kind of not-quiet. The meadow, still warm from the day’s sunlight, releases the smell of wildflower & sweetfern. It is a lazy summer moment and even the studious bees collect pollen in languid, unhurried movements. The collective hum of day has come and gone, the hour hand hovering hesitantly in the space between afternoon and evening. A slight breeze gently stirs from the west, skimming its fingers over the tops of the wild grasses. They ripple and undulate in response, brushing together like windchimes in a hushed rustle. At that very moment, as if in answer to the grass-chimes, a skipping buzz reaches through the air. Cicadas, singing with their lacy wings. It is the song of summer. It fills every space with a ch-ch-ch-ch before falling quiet once again. It is the sound of life unfurling, slow as a fern breaking through the forest floor’s soft peat.

Construction Notes: Fronts and back are knit flat, joined at the shoulders with a 3 needle bind off, then seamed at the sides. Sleeves are picked up and knit in the round.
If you are using plant based yarn the seams along the edges of this piece give it stability, structure, and keep it from warping (or twisting sideways) over time. If you’ve ever purchased a cheap tee shirt and had the seams twist you’ll know what I’m talking about)
