The season’s upon us, it’s that time of year
Brandy and eggnog, there’s plenty of cheer
There’s lights on the trees and there’s wreaths to be hung
There’s mischief and mayhem and songs to be sung
They call this Christmas where I’m from

The Dropkick Murphys sum up what Christmas is like with my boyfriend’s family: A huge deal, and a pretty chaotic one. To get me through it this year, I wanted a pair of socks that would make me smile whenever I looked at them. Red and white are the colours of Christmas for me, as that’s what I decorate my home in. A bit of rummaging through books full of charts later, these socks were born. Easy to memorise charts, changing background colour to keep it interesting and my trusty recipe for stranded socks that fits me best.

As this is a free pattern, it comes in only one size, approx. size 40 European. You can knit it more tightly or loosely to adjust the fit. Keep in mind that stranded colourwork has less stretch than plain stockinette stitch.
For comparison: I usually knit vanilla socks on 2mm with 72 stitches. Knit on 2.5mm, 64 stitches will give me a good fit.

The length of the foot can be adjusted to some degree by leaving out a chart repeat or rearranging the charts to have more repeats of the shorter Chart B. Feel free to play around, if the length does not fit you.
