Christmas Baubles, no. 010
A basic round Christmas bauble is decorated in four ways - snowman, Santa, holly and pudding.
The bauble is worked on two needles (not knitted circular) so there is one seam to sew after the bauble has been stuffed.
Snowman and Santa - have knitted arms and hats, Santa has a garter stitch beard, and snowman has a garter stitch scarf. All these are sewn onto the stuffed bauble.
Holly has sewn on leaves and berries.
Pudding has separate knitted frills for the sauce and holly which are joined into the bauble as it’s knitted.
Finished Sizes
Santa and snowman - 11.5cm (4 1/2in) high
holly and pudding - 6cm (2 1/2in) high
Stitches Used
Cast on, stocking stitch, garter stitch (knit every row), increasing - knit into front and back of stitch (diagram), decreasing - k2tog, k2tog tbl, p2tog, p3tog (diagrams).
Yarn
Any DK-weight yarn.
I used wool DK for the red, light and dark green, and plain white. You also need a white brushed or mohair-type yarn (around DK weight or slightly thicker), and a white bobble or snow effect DK yarn (I used Sirdar Snuggly Bubbly). Plain DK yarn could be used instead of these two textures.
Yarn amounts - these baubles use small amounts of each yarn; all four could easily be made from one ball of each of red, white and light green, together with smaller oddments of brown and dark green.
Other Materials
Polyester toy stuffing.
Needles
1 pair of 3.25mm (US size 3) needles, 2 spare 3.25mm (US size 3) needles for Pudding bauble.
Tension
24 sts and 32 rows to 10cm (4in) measured over stocking stitch.
