This pattern uses basic crochet stitches and skills to help you create these cute little tree decorations.

The pattern includes step-by-step instructions and photos, so is great for a beginner.

You will need

  • DK weight yarn (or yarn of your choice) in brown, white, red and green.
  • 2.5mm crochet hook (or hook appropriate for size of bauble, yarn and tension)
  • Cheap 6cm diameter smooth bauble (or other size if you wish)
  • Darning needle, scissors

Yarn requirements

The pattern uses DK weight yarn with a 2.5mm crochet hook and 6cm diameter bauble. However, you can use whatever you have. If you use anything heavier than DK weight yarn, it is suggested you use a larger bauble.

Hook size

A 2.5mm crochet hook has been specified, but use whatever you prefer to get the look and size. A larger bauble and heavier weight yarn may require a larger hook. The pattern is simple and easily adaptable.

Charity Donations

I originally published this pattern to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society UK. Check out my story below. However, I have decided to offer this pattern for FREE and ask that you consider donating to this or another charity of your choice.

My story

In 2009 my mother, who had been suffering from memory loss for some time, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Over the next few years she deteriorated from an intelligent person - able to produce wonderful antique reproduction dolls, watercolours and various other crafts - to someone who was unable to do more than watch TV. In December 2015 the family made the difficult decision to place Mum in a specialist dementia care home, which I have to say she absolutely loved. I developed this little pattern while I sat at the home keeping her company. She has since passed away, but Christmas was always her favourite time of year. She loved decorating the house - and buying lots of trees!! Some cute Christmas baubles seems very apt.
