The shawl is inspired by a photo of competitive kite flying in the Chinese region of Weifang. I saw it at a photo exhibition and the explosion of colours and forms stayed with me. I began thinking about how I could translate this image into knitting and this is the result.

Chinese Kites Shawl can be knitted in various ways: without any beads, with basic level of beading, with advanced level of beading, and you have a choice of two edgings too. It is fully charted.

This pattern uses the crochet hook method of adding beads – other beading methods will not work. Please see special instructions in the pattern.

This pattern was previously published in Knit Now Magazine issue 27 and has been updated upon Ravelry release.
