Chilston
I love the ethereal quality that double yarn overs lend to lace. In this stitch pattern, the combination of single and double yarn overs together with double and triple decreases creates a dynamic interplay of negative spaces and dramatically curved lace motifs reminiscent of linden leaves (CHART ONLY).
The shawl is worked from the top down, beginning with a simple eyelet edging and garter stitch short rows, which shape the shawl into a versatile crescent. The garter stitch transitions into the delicate lace portion and then back again to garter stitch for the bottom edging. There are beads added throughout the lace for a bit of sparkle (approx. 475 seed beads, size 6/0 4.00 mm, optional), but the project will work just as well without beads.
November 12, 2020 - pattern updated to correct error in Row 2 of Chart A: all increases happen only on the right side rows; ignore Row 2 and simply work the wrong side Rows 2, 4, 6, and 8 as follows: K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2.
