This knitting pattern - first printed in the 2 March 1940 issue of Woman’s Weekly - can be used to make delightful cardigans for girls aged one to ten. The ribbed borders are worked afterwards, so that the buttonholes can be reversed if the cardigan is for a little boy.

The original instructions say: Worked at a tension of 8½ sts to the inch in width on No.8 pins, the measurements on the diagram are attained after light pressing.

Patons Super, or Beehive, Scotch Fingering 3 ply in the following quantities:

Cardigan to fit one - two year old 2½ ounces (71g)
Cardigan to fit two - four year old 3 ounces (85g)
Cardigan to fit four - six year old 4 ounces (113g)
Cardigan to fit six - eight year old 5 ounces (142g)
Cardigan to fit eight - ten year old 5½ ounces (156g)

Pearl buttons as follows:
Cardigan to fit one - two year old 7 buttons
Cardigan to fit two - four year old 8 buttons
Cardigan to fit four - six year old 8 buttons
Cardigan to fit six - eight year old 9 buttons
Cardigan to fit eight - ten year old 10 buttons
