Chevre
The Chevre Cowl is one of eleven engaging patterns from Marlisle: A New Direction in Knitting by Anna Maltz – a beautiful, 160 page, full-colour, litho-printed book packed with photographs, knowledge, anecdotes and opinion to introduce you to the technique of Marlisle. It features 22 interesting yarns from dedicated small-producers while celebrating the breadth of our knitting community. Available from www.annamaltz.com and friendly yarn shops around the world. Launch date 10 February, 2018.
It’s hard to think of a simpler garment to knit in the round than a cowl. The ease of no shaping lets you focus on working the striking stitch pattern, which requires attention, without being overly complicated. Because of the different characters of the yarns used, the shapes gently float, dancing and hovering with a mind of their own, rather than the regimented chevrons associated with military rank badges. It’s not a deep cowl, but has been designed to be just long enough to keep you warm, but not obscure the stitch pattern in the folds that would appear if you made it longer. You can of course make it as long as you have enough yarn for.
