When the cold winterwind comes we all want something warm around our neck. Round cabled-chestnuts roasting on little flames, when Jack Frost is nipping at your nose and you listen to yuletide carols sung by a choir… it’s one of my favorite Christmas songs. This textured cowl is wide enough at the bottom to lay down smooth, but due to the changing cable-pattern tight enough at the top to keep you warm and toasty around your throat.

The pattern comes in written instructions only. You can use any DK-weight yarn for this cowl that gives you the right gauge.
I knit mine with a colour change within, because I couldn’t get three matching skeins, but you can knit this in one colour or in as many colours as you like.

Materials:

• appr. 580 yards / 530 m DK weight yarn (2.5 skeins Zauberwiese Softmerino DK)
• 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle 60 cm, 2 cable-needles
• 1 marker for beginning of round (BOR)

Gauge:
23 sts x 36 rows in pattern A = 10cm square after washing and laying out flat

Size:
65 cm width at the bottom and 42 cm at the top and 50 cm long

Wenn im Winter der kalte Wind kommt, möchten wir alle etwas Warmes um den Hals haben. Kleine runde Kastanien-Zopfmuster folgen auf kleine Flämmchen, wie in dem Christmas-Song „Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping on your nose…” – eines der schönsten amerikanischen Weihnachtslieder, wie ich finde. Dieser gemusterte Cowl ist unten weit genug, damit er schön aufliegt und dank der Zopfmuster oben herum eng genug, damit der Hals schön warm bleibt.

Die Anleitung ist in schriftlicher Form. Jedes Garn in der angegebenen Stärke, welches dir die korrekte Maschenprobe gibt, kann dafür genommen werden. Ich habe in meiner Version einen farblich passend melierten Strang in der Mitte, weil es keine drei passenden gab, aber der Cowl kann selbstverständlich auch einfarbig oder in mehreren Farben gestrickt werden.
