Brighten up your knitting with Chesney’s slipped stitch colorwork. It’s as easy as knitting stripes! The pullover begins by casting on the upper back and strategically slipping stitches to create decorative elongated stitches. After the upper back is completed, it’s placed on hold, and the left front is picked up from the back’s cast-on edge. It’s knit using the same stitch pattern before being placed on hold, and then the same is done for the upper right front before joining the left and right when the neckline is cast on. When the upper front is complete, the front and back are joined at the underarms with more cast-on stitches, and the lower body is knit in the round in pattern. Waist shaping is added in a striped stockinette wedge, with slipped stitches removed as they no longer fit. Deep ribbing completes the body. Set-in sleeves are picked up from the body using the main color and knit down seamlessly in stockinette, using short-rows to shape the sleeve cap.

Chesney was designed using a bulky superwash yarn. Lighter bulky yarns with good drape will make the best substitutions, such as superwash wool, alpaca blends, or silk blends. Softer drape allows the stitch pattern to flatten after blocking as shown on the sample. Bouncy, natural wool may create a significantly more textured sweater body.
