The Checkered Shawl is BOTH knit and crochet.

Checkered shawl is a combination of knitting and crochet. The shawl is first knit with knits, purls, and increases then bound off. Then the crochet portion is worked along the short edge with front and back post stitches.

For the crochet part of the pattern there is instruction for left handed and right handed crocheters.
