These mitts start off similarly to my Dryas Mittens (Fall 2021 Cast On) but with a different cast-on method, mimicking the look of an extra Latvian braid at the bottom edge. The cuff is worked with slightly different colors in the Latvian braids there but use the same checkerboard pattern in red and white. A similar diamond stitch pattern is used in the hand as was used in the palms of those mittens. That is where the similarities end, though! These would make a great coordinating pair of fingerless mitts for those mittens, or instead of mittens. A bold, striped thumb and a duplicate-stitched heart (or hearts) add a bit of whimsy to the mitts. The cast on is a two-color, double braid cast on, and the bind off exactly matches at the top of the hand. Use the bold colors called for here, or choose different colors to work your mitts!
