Looking for a project for your special handspun or color-shifting yarns? Cheap Date pairs a 100g skein of sport weight with less than 200 yards of a contrasting colorway -- achievable with one 4oz braid of fiber spun to sport weight or with just one skein of Spincycle Yarns Dyed in the Wool or Nocturne! The simplest stitches let the yarn shine, while frequent color changes keep you going on this project. Any sport weight yarns (or, really, any weight!) will work beautifully for this pattern. I used a precious skein of Sew Happy Jane’s limited Sustain Finn Sport that I had been saving for years for my main color and handspun for my contrast color for my original pink version. Celebrate your handspun and/or favorite sport yarns with Cheap Date!

This squishy triangle shawl starts with an i-cord tab cast on (with photo tutorial!) and is worked from the center top down, with increases worked on the outer edges and along the center spine to form the classic triangle shape. Simple garter and stockinette let your handspun yarn be the star of the show!

Designed for sport weight yarn; however, this pattern is written to work at any gauge! Just make sure your MC and CC are roughly the same weight. If you work with a different weight yarn, size and yardage required will vary from the samples.

For results that look most similar to the samples, choose a tonal or solid colorway on a sport weight base with similar yardage for your MC, and chose a handspun, color-shifting, variegated, speckled, or contrasting sport weight yarn with at least 200 yards for your CC. My handspun yarn was a 2-ply sport weight at 15 wraps per inch (WPI). Use either MC (pink sample) or CC (blue sample) for bind off.
