Charming Granny Blanket
This mixed-media blanket uses basic sewing and crochet skills to make squares which are assembled into a blanket and then edged with crochet. It is a great way to use up fabric scraps and leftover yarn for a scrappy, patchwork blanket, or you can indulge in a cohesive pre-cut fabric charm pack and coordinating yarn for a more intentional design.
Yarn and Fabric
New or up-cycled fabric to make desired number of fabric squares. (Our sample used a Kaffe Fassett charm pack, which made 21 five-inch double-sided squares.)
You can choose to make any size squares you’d like.
Yarn to make the same number of crochet granny squares, as well as edging for each fabric square and blanket border. Our sample used 5 balls Schoppel Wolle Edition 3 (100% super wash merino wool, 160yd/ 50gm; sport weight)
Smooth, strong, heavy thread for blanket- stitching and optional quilting of fabric squares. We used size 10 Perle cotton.
