This is a pattern for a slouchy beanie worked from the bottom up, in the round, and using the stranded colourwork technique.

This pattern includes 3 motif to choose from (mushrooms, owl, and deer). This hat matches Mushmittens, Hoot Mittens, and Fawn Over These Mittens patterns. There are a few rounds with long floats and I have included an explanation of the Ladder-Back/Invisible Jacquard method. But you may tack your floats any way you like.

In addition, all charts are shown with lighter colours if that works better with your viewing platform.

yarn:
Shetland 4ply by Gathered Sheep Yarns; Fingering; 100% Pure Shetland Wool; 233yds (213m) / 55g
approximate yarn amounts (for 1 hat with pom pom, optional):
1 skein each of MC (Rust) & CC1 (Golden Straw)
Use any remaining yarn to work a pom pom, if you like. (approximately 15g for the pom)
needles:
2.5mm (us no 1.5) circular 20in/50cm; DPNs 6in/15cm (crown)
3.0mm (us no 2.5) 20in/50cm; DPNs 6in/15cm (crown)
gauge:
28 sts x 28 rows = 4in/10cm measured over stranded stockinette on larger needles
Some knitters work stranded and single-coloured at different gauges. Change needles, as needed, to keep gauge the same throughout.
