The Charlie design is a roomy cardigan featuring cables set against a garter base. Intarsia motifs of Argyll design elements and King Charles spaniels are incorporated in the design.

Gauge/tension

36 stitches - 1 repeat of the pattern - to 13cm (5.25”) in width and 56 rows - 1 repeat of the pattern - to 18cm (7”) in depth.

  • Underarms: 136cm (55”)
  • Side seam: 47cm (18.5”)
  • Length: 74cm (29”)
  • Sleeve seam: 43.5cm (17”)

Yarn

  • EITHER 14 100g balls of Patricia Roberts Extra Thick Wool OR 15 100g hanks of Patricia Roberts Extra Thick Shetland Tweed for main colour
  • PLUS 2 20g balls of Patricia Roberts Angora in 3 contrast colours AND a small ball of 4th contrast colour NOTE: Contrast colours in angora are used double throughout

In the book ‘Style’ a pattern is also given for a scarf version (see photos) - for the scarf you need 4 balls/hanks of the main colour yarn specified for the jumper and oddments of angora, if you omit the intarsia sections then you would require 5 balls/hanks of the main colour.
