This is a vintage pattern from Cornelia Mee’s 1846 book, Exercises in Knitting. The entire book can be viewed on the Gutenberg.org website. The book is a project being recorded and knitted by volunteers at the Librivox site.

This pattern is available in it’s original form and an updated version for modern knitters. It has been test knit.

Cornelia provides no gauge, yardage, or finishing instructions. Typical of Victorian patterns, it is assumed that the knitter will figure things out, including errata.
