Chain Splice is the perfect hat pattern for using up that variegated yarn that always seems to pool on other projects. The slouch version is just tall enough to add scrunch to the side, but could easily be made taller. The slouchy version can be made with less than 50 yards of Contrast color and less than 100 yards of the main color.
