This pattern is classic Selbu, often seen as spiders in pine boughs, weaving evergreen webs of love. Mittens were a traditional gift given to the men attending a wedding. I have used a lace cuff instead, making these women’s mittens, but you can use ribbing if you prefer. (It’s in the pattern.) Warm hands; what could be more romantic?

Finished Size
4.5” Width measured flat across palm
13.25” from cuff to fingertip

Gauge
30st/31row = 4”/10cm over STRANDED stockinette

Yarn
Fingering weight yarn of your choice. Sample uses Rauma Finullgarn (100% wool, 50 g, 175m) 2 skein in 401 cream and 1 skein 494 green. I recommend wool or mostly wool.

Skills Required
Intermediate knitting. Knit, purl, K2Tog, SSK, Make 1, and especially stranded knitting, which is easier than it looks. Selbu mittens make a great “first stranded” project.
