I modified my CATALINA Cowl design to one of those “oh so popular messy bun hats” - it makes a perfect gift for a recipient wearing a ponytail or a messy bun.
It is completely reversible – you decide whether you wear the stockinette or the reverse stockinette side as right side – just make sure to weave in ends invisibly.
The original sample was knit with less than one skein bulky weight yarn – Mecha by MALABRIGO. It is possible to use any yarn weight – all you need to do is swatch and calculate the number of stitches you need to cast-on for the circumference your hat should have. This way you can also adjust your hat in width. Adjusting it in length is also pretty easy – just knit more rows – the only thing you need to keep in mind is that the number of horizontal bands you knit is an even one.

Mein CATALINA Cowl Design habe ich zu einem „Messy Bun Hat“ modifiziert, einer der sehr populären Mützen, die perfekt über Dutt oder Pferdeschwanz getragen werden können. Die Mütze ist von beiden Seiten tragbar – entweder glatt rechts oder glatt links außen - man sollte nur die Fäden möglichst unsichtbar vernähen.
Die Originalversion ist aus einem “bulky weight” Garn gestrickt – Mecha von MALABRIGO. Man kann die Mütze aber aus jeder Garnstärke stricken – muss dazu nur eine Maschenprobe stricken und daraus die Anzahl der Maschen für den gewünschten Umfang errechnen. Auf diese Weise kann die Weite ganz leicht angepasst werden – aber auch die Höhe ist einfach anpassbar => man strickt einfach mehr Reihen, muss dabei aber darauf achten, dass die Anzahl der gestrickten „Bänder“ eine gerade Anzahl ist.
