Carpool Hat
I created this slightly slouchy hat for my stepdad, an elementary school principal who greets the carpool line on chilly mornings. As attractive inside-out as right-side-out, it’s also the perfect unisex grab-and-go hat for harried parents whose morning cup of coffee hasn’t kicked in yet. The hat is knit top-down in the round and can be easily modified for a tighter or more relaxed fit. Choosing to fold the brim also affects the fit.
All sizes are designed to have 2” negative ease. This hat is knit in the round from the top down up. Instructions are given in written format.
Difficulty: Easy: Skills include casting on, knitting and purling in the round, increasing, and weaving in ends.
Tools:
- Double pointed needles or circular needle, depending on your preference, in U.S. size 7 (4.5 mm) (or whatever size you need to get gauge) for hat body and U.S. size 6 (4.0 mm) for ribbing.
- Stitch marker or other way to mark beginning of round
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
