Carolinian
Winter in the Carolinas doesn’t necessitate heavy gear in the day-to-day. This quick and easy knit is open enough for breathing room, but still gives those of us in mild climates a chance to play with cold-weather yarn. Hat is knit bottom-up, in the round, with sizes for all ages from infant through adult and is shown here in the adult size. This makes a great gift knit too, it whips up so quickly.
Through the years, I’ve experimented with a variety of different yarn weights to show this design in different fabric densities; the latest pattern sample features two yarns held double to show the halo effect of Mohair. Super bulky yarn can be used by itself. It also looks great using double-stranded worsted.

Materials Needed:
• Yarn: 90 (100, 110, 120, 130) yards / 85 (95, 100, 110, 120) meters each bulky weight yarn & mohair lace weight yarn (held double) OR super bulky weight yarn OR worsted weight (held double)
• Sample used: Mighty Mo (Lace weight, 90-130 yards) and Plush Bulky 2018 (Bulky weight, 90-130 yards)
• Needles: Size 10 (6 mm) & Size 11 (8 mm) 16” circular needles and set of DPNs in larger size
• Stitch marker
• Tapestry needle
Project Details:
• Sizes: Infant (Toddler, Child, Tween, Adult)
• Sizing Note: Bulky yarn gives the fit extra flexibility. If stuck between sizes, consider working the smaller size but adding a bit of length before beginning crown shaping. A snug fit around the head will help to keep the weight of the hat from sliding off the back of the head.
• Finished Measurements:
• Circumference: 13.75 (15.5, 17.25, 18.75, 20.5)“ / 35 (39, 43.5, 48, 52) cm
• Height: 5.5 (6.5, 7, 7.5, 8)” / 14 (17, 18, 19.5, 20.5) cm
• Gauge: 14 sts and 17 rows per 4” / 10 cm in Lace Pattern on larger needles
