The Caroline shawl is an asymmetrical shawl and is worked from the top right point across and down to the left edge. Increases are made at the top edge every other row, and once the main body of the shawl is complete, stitches are dropped in a few sections to create vertical braids. As the shawl increases, new sections begin to emerge and repeat. You choose the size of your shawl - feel free to knit your shawl as large or as small as you want.

Yarn

  • Unspun fingering weight held double throughout. Or Aran weight spun yarn held single.
  • I recommend using Nutiden yarn for this design, but some similar yarns include: Lopi Plötulopi, Wild Wool Canadian Wool Discs, Wool Dreamers Manchelopis, or another pencil roving.
  • Honer Och Eir - Nutiden: 100% Wool, 100g. Sample uses colorway Järnvilja 300 grams needed.
  • Please note, every colorway of Nutiden is created differently and therefore contains different fiber types, so it is very difficult to predict exactly how much yarn you will need. I always suggest purchasing more than you think you will need all at once as Honer Och Eir only produces one batch of any given colorway.

Needles

  • US 10 / 6 mm needles. I recommend a 22” / 80 cm circular needle.
  • Swatch to determine your gauge, adjust your needle size if necessary to match called for gauge. Needle size above is a suggestion.

Gauge
- 15sts x 29 rows to 4” / 10 cm in garter stitch, after blocking.

Notions

  • 7 stitch markers
  • crochet hook
  • tapestry needle for weaving in ends
