Caroline is a cropped jacket-style cardigan inspired by the classic boxy designs of the 90s. Starting from the lace hem, with stitches picked up along the side of the lace to work upwards for the body, Caroline is worked in one piece and packed with carefully considered design details that give a crisp, neat finish.

Notes
Caroline is worked seamlessly from the bottom up. The lace hem band is worked first, with stitches picked up along the top edge and worked back and forth in rows for the body until the armhole split. The fronts and back are then worked separately and joined at the shoulders with a Three Needle Bind Off.

The sleeves are picked up at the armholes, with the sleeve caps shaped with German short rows. When you come to a ds, work both legs together as a single stitch. The balloon sleeves are worked in the round without shaping down to a final decrease round and i-cord cuff.

Stitches are picked up along the front opening, and a shawl collar is shaped with short rows before being folded down and cast off to create a folded collar. Finally, stitches are picked up along the folded collar edge, and an i-cord binding is worked along the length of the front opening.

The cardigan is designed to finish at the natural waist. For a longer body length, work more rows before proceeding to the armhole split. Each additional 8 rows will add 1”/2.5 cm to the length of the body.
