This beginner-friendly pattern uses just two simple stitches to create a twisted, mesh-like fabric that’s fun to make and fast to finish!

Notes

  • This cowl is worked as a flat rectangle, then the ends are seamed together to make a Möbius strip (you’ll put a half-twist in the cowl).
  • The stitch pattern for the main body of the cowl is DC linen stitch (you’ll alternate DCs and CHs to get a checkerboard pattern).
  • The CH 3 at the beginning of each row counts as a DC (in the following row, you’ll work into the top CH of the CH 3, treating the CH 3 like a DC).
  • Asterisks () indicate pattern repeats. Repeat between thes as indicated.

Materials

  • 1 skein Malabrigo Rios, the model colorway is #859 Primavera
  • US H/5.0 mm crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
  • darning needle
  • two locking stitch markers to track the end of the rows (optional)

Size

  • Before seaming: 11.5” wide, 24” long
  • After seaming and blocking: 11.5” tall, 23” around (the half-twist you’ll add when seaming shortens it a bit)
