Candice the Chick! With her too-big feet and her cute bug-eyes, I won’t question whether she is a chicken or an egg.
Candice is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in English using US (American) terminology. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.
Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished items. My Candice is approximately 12cm tall (4 ¾ inches).
You will need:
- 2.5mm hook/C-2 (US)
- 4ply yarn/fingering > less than 50g yarn in each colour: YELLOW, GOLDEN YELLOW, ORANGE, RED and PINK
- WHITE 4ply yarn or embroidery thread
- A pair of 7mm safety eyes
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Polyester toy stuffing
- Stitch marker (optional)
Notes:
- Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best, I prefer cotton or cotton blend.
- When changing colour, yarn over the new colour and pull through on the stitch prior.
- I’ve used the following yarns: o YELLOW = Hobbii Baby Cotton Organic in col. 27 o GOLDEN YELLOW = Hobbii Baby Cotton Organic in col. 25 o ORANGE = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 14 o RED = Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4 in col. 58 o PINK = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 19
- Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
- Your tension, the yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of the finished item. My Candice the Chick is approximately 12cm tall (4 ¾ inches).
- I have used safety eyes for this pattern but you may choose to embroider. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
