Who says that a pair has to be made out of the same pattern? If they’re made with the same yarn, then theoretically, they’re a matching pair right? Calvin & Ripple are made out of the same fur, but they couldn’t be more different. And believe me, they make quite a pair.

The Calvin sock is knit from the toe-up, following Cat Bordhi’s Riverbed architecture. It features a fun, wild slip stitch pattern on the front of the sock, bordered by a garter rib on either side along the foot. Calvin makes the best of hand painted yarn and is sure to mix up the colors nicely. The heel flap transitions into the stretchy mistake stitch rib, balancing out the more rigid nature of the slip stitch pattern.

The Ripple sock is knit from the cuff down and features a rippling pattern on the front of the sock, and the same mistake stitch ribbing on the back. However, Ripple is not to be outdone by Calvin in the fit department. No no. Ripple’s sock is a reverse engineered Riverbed style architecture. Looking at the soles of the sock, you’d be hard pressed to tell which is which at a glance.

Knit the Calvin and Ripple pair, or knit 2 of either one. (Although, if you knit 2 Calvin socks, you’d better not let Ripple know. You know he’d be offended.) Toe-up or Cuff down, there’s a pattern here for even the most stubborn sock knitter.

Errata 7/18/09 In the Ripple sock “Time to Decrease” section, the numbers should read 12(14,15) not 11(13,15) for the wing stitches on either side of the marker. Current download is correct.

Minor Errata 10/21/09 - On the Calvin Instep - Medium Chart - Row 32, the first “No stitch” should be a knit stitch.

Update January 2015 - Ripple passed away at the beginning of July in 2014. I thought it appropriate to cut the price in half as a result.
