Calm Down Socks
The Calm Down socks were born out of a need for comfort through tough times. The need for a calming project to keep you hands busy, your mind occupied, and working towards something comforting and warming. Sometimes we all need a little extra comfort in our life, and a way to calm down from stressors - big or small.
These socks are worked in the round from the top down. You begin by creating the long legwarmer-esque cuff, then continuing to the main sock with a heel flap and decreases to create a comfortably fitting heel. This pattern is suited for any knitter who feels comfortable taking on a small circumference project.
Sizes
- 1 (2, 3) - Finished sock circumferences: 6 (8, 10)” / 15 (20, 25)cm
- I recommend choosing size 1 for children’s socks, size 2 for women’s socks, and size 3 for mens socks. Sock length is variable based on your foot length.
- Sample shown in size 2.
Yarn
- This pattern uses one strand of unspun fingering weight yarn. Instead, you could also use one strand of any spun fingering weight yarn.
- Recommended Yarn: Honer Och Eir - Nutiden: 100% Wool, 100g / 3.53oz yarn plate. Colorway: Languster. approx. 80-130 (100-150, 120-170)g total required. (yarn requirement range is due to the differing grams per yard of different unspun yarn colorways)
- If you are using a spun yarn I recommend doubling your yarn requirements as spun yarns tend to be denser and have less yardage for the weight.
Needles
- 2.5mm / US 1.5 9 inch circular needles and 32 inch circular needles for magic loop.
Gauge
- 28 stitches and 41 rows in 4”/10cm in Stockinette stitch
- Adjust needle size to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions
- removable stitch markers
- spare needle or cable needle - tapestry needle
- row counter highly recommended
